Location Scouting

It was the dead of winter when we stumbled upon the 13th century Alte Posthalerei in Aufseß. The former waystation sits below the 1000 year old Aufseß castle.

While it was bitter cold outside we received a very warm and gracious welcome from the owner of the property Bianca Roth. Bianca became our Angel.

Some interior views of the Alte Posthalerei in Aufseß.

WALBERLA

The Walberla, also known as Ehrenburg, is a striking Table-like Mountain east of Forchheim.

The "Ehrenbürg" consists of the 532 m high Rodenstein and the 512 m high Walberla, which is crowned by a chapel built in the 17th century.

Archaeological finds testify to a settlement of the Walberla already in the Bronze Age (about 1000 BC). The fortifications of the Celts (about 500 BC) are still recognizable today.

The Walberla is also known as the "Gateway to Franconian Switzerland".

NEIDECK

Neideck Castle is a former high mediaeval nobleman's castle above the village of Streitberg, in the municipality of Wiesenttal in the Upper Franconian county of Forchheim in the German state of Bavaria. As a result of its exposed location above the valley of the Wiesent, it has become a symbol of Franconian Switzerland.
The castle was first mentioned in 1312 as the property of the edelfrei family of Schlüsselberg. A Henry of Neideck, however, was recorded as early as 1219 in a documentary source. The castle was therefore probably built in the 12th century, possibly as early as 1150/60. At that time there was probably only a small wooden outer bailey in front of the main castle on the distinctive shoulder of rock above the Wiesent valley.
